With a physical injury, the subtle hatha yoga practices become even more compelling–with my pending surgery for my broken clavicle, the subtle practices are “all” that is available.

Kapalabhati (called “breath of fire” by some traditions) in the morning is grounding, energizing (depending on its execution), and balancing. While it may seem to be a breathing practice (pranayama), in fact it is a shatkarma, or one of the primary cleansing practices of hatha yoga.

I’m finding it an excellent pre-surgery practice.
