Public Classes
Group classes in Sonoma and Petaluma, California:
ParaYoga (Tantric Hatha)
The ancient Yogis believed through learning to control our subtle energies, we also learn to control the mind.
Tantric Hatha encourages an “inner listening” that helps transform students’ bodies to be stronger and more flexible and also aid in removing mental and emotional “clutter” for a more balanced and healthy energy flow. The most noticeable difference from other vinyasa classes will be that the flow or sequence of the asana will be practiced at a slightly slower pace in order to become sensitive to our subtle energies. These subtle energies are known as Prana, or vital life force, and Agni, our digestive and psychic fire. Our goal in each practice is to become more and more sensitive to Prana, cultivate Agni and then ultimately control them. The classes incorporate pranayama and meditation practices that encourage students to find clarity of mind and a peaceful contentment. One will leave a ParaYoga class with a tranquil mind, knowing they have balanced vital life force.

Private Yoga Sessions
Q: What Can a Private Session Provide?
A: Any of the following:
Private workout – Answer personal questions – Refine alignments in poses – Customized home practices – Develop yoga therapy programs for specific needs – Explore theory – Personalized relaxation or meditation – Spiritual guidance – Mantra initiation
Q: Who Are Private Sessions For?
A: Individuals or Small Private Groups!
Beginning Students – Desire Personal Coaching – Working with Chronic Pain – Obesity – Stress – Anxiety – Depression – Sleep Trouble – Anyone Seeking to Deepen into Yoga Practice
Q: What Happens in a Private Session?
A: In private lessons students learn how to safely and effectively practice yoga for their individual needs, learning which exercises and practices are most useful and which ones to avoid. Barbra will have you fill out an easy form which she then reviews. Based on the student’s current physical/emotional/mental health, she then sequences the best practices (asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra). Some students prefer to have a personal practice outlined for them and then enjoy working at home alone, others simply enjoy the personal attention and customized instruction of a one on one class. Still others are interested in the psychological or spiritual teachings of yoga and meditation.
Q: What is Mantra Initiation?
A: A mantra is a sound that connects one to his/her “Best Self” (and/or the divine) in the most effective way. Very few sanskrit mantras are “unlocked” to the general public – meaning that the full power of meditating on that mantra can not be realized unless the mantra is prescribed by a teacher who has been granted the authority to do so. This is what happens in mantra initiation. The teacher meditates on the essence of a student’s needs and then unlocks the most appropriate mantra for that student to use to over come their limitations and connect to their highest good.
Q:How Can I Schedule a Private?
A: To schedule a private yoga session, email Barbra. Participants must be 12 years or older.
Fees*
Individual
-
$75 per hour, $60 per hour if you purchase a six-session package up front. I am open to trades!
-
One-time semi-private instruction (minimum 3 people, one 75-minute session): $32 per person*
-
Ongoing semi-private instruction four-class package (minimum 3 people, four 75 minute sessions): $120 per person*
Why are sessions priced this way?
A: Whether teaching a group class or a private lesson, qualified yoga teachers make a certain hourly rate for their time of service. Private yoga sessions are priced similarly to that of other forms of healthcare service that require the same length of time for a one-on-one session: (ie.massage therapy, acupuncture, counseling, physical therapy).
In private consultation, I take into account your overall health, lifestyle, and “life conditions” (i.e., if you have a family, a hectic work schedule and have a hard time even finding time for yoga, I will design a practice and lifestyle recommendations specific to those needs, different than a practice for someone with a more “simple” life). My one-on-one yoga work with you is about lifestyle, not just “your body.” We may even discover that something as simple as modifying what you eat for breakfast or when you exercise can make a world of difference in how you feel overall.

PRIVATE YOGA! I need private yoga. A lot of it. I will pay you a million dollars (Canadian, not American) for one hour of your precious time!
Can you squeeze me into your busy schedule? Can you teach me how to eat brownies in headstand? How to contemplate my navel in bridge pose?
Thank you Swami Babalious.
Private yoga lessons are the best, especially when seeking assistance with such indelicate topics as eating brownies while in headstand. (A special pranayama technique will help. Not uddiyana bandha!)
I can always find time for a private student!
